As a family-run farm in the Sandhills of South Carolina, we offer koi from three distinct origins: Japanese imports from respected Niigata breeders, Waterwheel Homebred F1 bred from our own Japanese broodstock, and domestic pond-quality koi for hobbyists who want beautiful, affordable fish.

Our Story: How Waterwheel Japanese Koi Farm Came to Be

Waterwheel Japanese Koi Farm began as a dream shared by a family with a deep passion for koi and a love for nature. Over the years, that dream has grown into something bigger, a commitment to producing and sourcing koi to the highest standards we can hold ourselves to.

In 2025, we made the decision to rebuild our breeding program around exclusively Japanese bloodlines, importing from respected breeders in Niigata Prefecture and basing every fish we breed on world-class genetics.

We still stock affordable domestic koi for pond owners who want color without import prices — but every koi we breed now traces back to Japan.
